Nothing is chicer than wellness. Now if you happen to be a STEM person, or someone with a science degree in your background I know that you are probably rolling your eyes at the word, “wellness”. But jokes on you! This industry is booming. In 2022 the Canadian wellness market size was estimated to be at 2.4 billion dollars, and it’s only expected to grow. So if you’re are not lat least thinking about wellness even if you don’t participate in it, you are burying your head in the sand as far as I’m concerned.\

But what better way to escape the mundane than to take a break for the hustle and bustle of everyday life and spend some time on wellness? Trust me there is no better way. And for those of us uteri- having people who decide to use them at one point in our lives I would argue that wellness is even more important. Our culture does not care for the postpartum at all. It’s really a shame. But I met a wellness coach and doula whose passion for pregnant people was lovely to see. She’s been working as a doula for the past thirteen(??) years or so. She has birthed both her children at home, teaches hot yoga too, and offers insight on elimination communication.
Elimination communication is about reading your baby’s signs about when they will have a bowel movement. It’s a lovely way to be in tuned with your kiddo and I think helps with potty training later.
But back to wellness, I think it’s a great way to feel better in your skin and indulgent enough to break up the pain of existence. Also, it seems like there is an increased awareness for mental health and its relationship to well being. Especially in the past five years where our entire existence has been upended by a virus, people are turning to therapy more and more. I’ve been an ardent participant in therapy longer than the pandemic, but only now does it seem like talking about therapy is becoming more mainstream.
So, let’s not only indulge in the material things that help us stay chic, bit in things that take care of our bodies and minds too!
